New to this

I am very new to blogging but am tiring to get the hang of it.   I started out sewing pillows and fleece blankets with trim.  As time went on I started to try and do some new things like curtains and it was okay but still had no real idea of what I was doing so I had someone make some for me and then looked at theirs to figure out what I had done wrong and what I should have done.  I have also taken two sheets and made a comforter for my son but I can't seem to be able to wrap my head around patterns.  I have a pattern for a simple dress for my five year old daughter but am hesitant to start it.  I have not yet learned sewing jargon and can't seem to figure out what to do first.  I have cut out the pattern but not to the lines.  I left some room on the outside because I didn't know what I was doing.  If any one is in the same boat as me or knows what I am going through please feel free to let me know what  your thoughts are.
